NYP+ PROFILE:
Introduction:
NYP+ is an acronym of Network of Young People Living with HIV and AIDS. It is a non-governmental organization established in June, 2003 and registered under the society’s ordinance of 2002 and was awarded registration No. 00NGO/0514. The network was established with the objective of educating young people on ways to avoid new HIV and AIDS infections and how to care for those who are already infected with the virus. NYP+ has branches upcountry in Iringa, Morogoro, Tanga, Lindi and Mbeya. Since registered, the organization has implemented a number of projects in different regions in Tanzania to attain its objective. The network has more than 200 members these regions.
Vision:
To have a society where every young person is free from new HIV infections and the wellbeing of those living with HIV/AIDS is well guaranteed.
Mission:
NYP+ has a dedication of freeing the society from new HIV infection and making better the lives of those infected, through capacity building, networking, lobbying and advocacy programs.
Management:
The organization has a Board of Guarantees , a governing body that provides leadership and direction on strategic issues such as strategic and annual plans, annual budget, salary schemes and exercise control to ensure that the organization is operating within and in-line with the laws of the country and its own constitution. It has an Executive committee responsible for giving over all directions for the day-to-day operations of the organization in-line with the directions and decisions of the Board of Directors.
NYP+ has well experienced and qualified employed personnel who will ensure a smooth implementation of the project and attainment of the project’s objectives. It has an Accountant, a Coordinator, and a Program Officer and M&E Officer.
Achievements:
Since founded, the NYP+ has implemented a number of activities. The following are some of the activities.
In 2006:
v We managed to provide quality Home based care to people living with HIV/AIDS in Dar es salaam.
v In the same year NYP+ managed to train 30 Trainers of Trainees on ARV treatment literacy. These helped to reach youth living with HIV/AIDS on correct ways of living with HIV and correct way of using ARVs.
In 2007:
v We managed to reach over 2500 people and imparted them with basic knowledge and proper information on HIV issues.
v In the same year we conducted a survey to determine the main drivers of Stigma in Dar es Salaam region.
In 2008:
v Formed a group of young people known as DANCE FOR LIFE aiming to educate the young people and the community on HIV pandemic. The group has been working with other youths in different regions in Tanzania in inspiring, encouraging and motivating young people to stand for their Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights.
v Produced and distributed IEC materials ranging from the importance of attending VTC, counseling and how to access ARVs being provided by the government.
In 2010:
v We were implementing partners of the HAKI ZA WANANCHI PROJECT in Temeke- Dar es Salaam. In this project we reached about 500 youths with messages on the rights of the people living with HIV.
In 2011:
v In partnership with the National Council of People living with HIV/AIDS we reached more than 1500 youths with BCC skills in in three wards of Kanjunjumele, Ngonga and Kyela in Kyela District in Mbeya.
v In partnership with AMREF Tanzania we reached more than 3000 youths with Sexual Reproductive Health Rights under the TUITETEE project. This is a three years project which began in December 2010 and will end in December 2013. From July 2012 we have reached 99 young people living with HIV/AIDS with correct Sexual, Reproductive Health Messages. This went together with forming Youths clubs in the Care and treatment centers.
