PROFILE AND HISTORY
MOECO started a way back in 1992 as Uluguru Malihai Club (UMC) in Morogoro as branch of Malihai Clubs of Tanzania(MCT) based in Arusha. It was dealing with various issues of environment and sensitizing the community along Uluguru Mountains. Due to poor communication and financial constrains, then members after meeting of consensus, decided to register themselves as NGO, under the name of Morogoro Environmental Conservation Organisation abbreviated as MOECO in 1997 with registration certificate no. SO 8773. The main concern of MOECO is environmental protection and conservation through in various activities within Morogoro region.
The location of MOECO is at Mazimbu Road, off main gate of Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Solomon Mahlangu Campus, Mazimbu, Morogoro Municipality. MOECO has its own land (1.6 acres) where there is office buildings and tree nursery for various tree and fruits seedlings. Currently MOECO has 43 members, 14 women and 29 men.

VISION STATEMENT
MOECO vision is seeing Tanzania have a well green forests protected and conserved catchments areas, high land productivity, clear and good environmental Management.
MISSION STATEMENT
Sensitize the Community and other stakeholders through participatory approach on the needs to conserve the natural environment and the use of sustainable environment for human social-economic development using good governance principles.
OVERALL OBJECTIVES
To enable and support communities, provide justice and integral human development lifting people at the grass root level to immediate and active participation in improving the natural environment.

ACTIVITIES
By implementing the national and regional guidelines on environmental matters, the NGO focused and implemented its activities which included:-
· Assisting in establish tree farms as conservation method as well as income generating activities.
· Identified environmental problems n the region that need immediate action
· Organising seminars/workshops to exchange views on identified environmental problems, analysing them and suggesting possible remedies.
· Holding public lectures, organizing film/video and theatre shows in order to sensitize the people on the conservation of nature.
· Producing regular newsletters and radio/Television programmes for environmental education to the people.
· Establishing tree nurseries at the headquarters of the organization and at the selected villages from where the seedlings will be raised and distributed to communities adversely affected by haphazard deforestation.
· Networking and collaborating with other related institution, NGOs and government at region, national and international level.
