ZANZIBAR CULTURAL PROJECT
The Matemwe Cultural Project will
address the opportunity for tourism to have a positive impression on the cultures and
livelihoods of the communities. Presently in Matemwe, litter produced by the tourism
economy has no management and is therefore polluting both the beaches and the
villages. This project will develop mechanisms for the community to benefit
economically from the management of solid waste in partnership with the lodges and
hotels by establishing sustainable small-scale ethical businesses that support the
processing of biodegradable and non-biodegradable solid waste and recycling of biodegradable waste.
