KAMPIMBI SAFE DRINKING WATER PROJECT

JUSTIFICATION

Water is one of the most powerful ways to improve  health, hygiene, and well-being of any families need water to survive.Tanzania is among of the less developed countries which is facing with a lot of social and economic problem especially for water infrastructure in their villages. Ndungu is among of the village suffering from lack of enough safe domestic water for uses. Ndungu is located eastern part of Tanzania but its bordered with Mkomazi game reserve which is about 500 kms from Dar-es-salaam the capital and trading centre city of Tanzania. In historically the water infrastructure was constructed in the early of 1960 as an aids from our mother colony (British) and up to now there is no  any further improvement of water systems  while day to day settlements/families are expanded resulting  to drinking water crisis  among the different water users although there  a plent of water from the Yongoma River. This project of 1960 was initiated  to provide services to the  people not more than 1000 but per now the settlement are more than 26000 people who  depend from this small water reservior which is not enough, resulting  to the  people to use unsafe water. The Yongoma River(Ndurumo)  is about 6km away from their village that is flowing abundantly all-year-round which can be simultaneously tapped to redirect its use to use for  domestic uses, improve their economic and living condition.Hence eruption of diseases like dirrhoea, fever ,malaria  etc which kills many people especially children and their mother because of  lack of clean water to use. The socio-economic life of the people was originally agriculture and local  pastoralism . The purpose of this  proposal is to help the poor families to get safe drinking water  through Construction of Water Pipe Line direct from Yongoma River and Reservoir. Not because there is no enough water from the river but because there is no any further plan to expand the project  and its improvements which has touched our organization to help the communities around to reduced if not to finish the problem of drinking water .Financial Aids  and human resources required to improve  communities with the support they need to attain water at Ndungu village.

To ensuring that every one at Ndungu has clean water in drink would ranks as one of the great achievements of humankind. People are delivering upon this human right would also improve public and drive economic development .To make sure that women ,children and girls are engaged in economic issues than to spend a lot of time in seeking water. And to make that safe water decreases the diseases among the communities. To focusing attention on the importance of water and advocating sustainable management of fresh water resources.

and will take pride of what, as a community, can do and enhance their life and become productive
members of the society.

PROBLEM STATEMENT.

There is a general water problem in the area. When it rains, all the water in the village runs down
to the river. They drink this water, use it for washing,
cooking bathing, local drinks making like beers ,watering their animals and for irrigation activities. These water sources are therefore, shared by animals and human beings alike. They have  a Reservoir tank constructed in the early of 1960 which is not fulfilling their requirement due to the fact that, need is beyond the existing Reservoir tank and the near by villages depend on this  tank like Bagamoyo,Misufini,Dimbwi,Kwasoroha-Masai land and Makokane, but water supply for peripheral areas is only available for one or three day per week which affects their daily activities and their health. During the time where water are not found from the tape the always fetch water from the rivers the same applied to communities around the Centre facing a major problem of safe and clean water. Also, the wells are exposed, affording animals the opportunity to pollute the water. Women line up daily very early the morning to fetch water than to engaged in economic activities resulting to poverty among them and poor performance in academics issues for the Children who leave class to fetch water from river and it is always the children that carry the water. This would effectively reduce incidence of waterborne diseases and enable the people to have access to clean water leaving children to go to school and to develop as children.Primary schools, Secondary schools, Dispensaries, etc, which are not covered by other water supplies because of various reasons may suitably be supplied with water from  our expecting project.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES OF THE PROJECT

i) Mobilizing the community to fully participate in project implementation .In mobilizing the community Mohispac Foundation will conduct meeting to the Center and people around the centre requested the support. During these meetings the community will get explanation on how the project will be conducted and other project conditions which include community contribution. The meetings will help to create awareness and readiness of participating in the project implementation.

ii) Formation of Water Maintenance Fund (WMF) which will be formed by the Community. The fund will be contributed by the communities aiming at supporting them to manage in maintaining and repair the pipes and reservoirs.
iii) Transportation of building material from Dar-es-salaam; this activity will be done soon after receiving fund.
iv) The work will be done by water technician/Engineers.

THE IMPACT OF HAVING SAFE DRINKING WATER IS TREMENDOUS

dismantling site, locating to site with equipment, etc.
- Each household contributes 0.3 US DOLLAR  a month for maintenance and
