Peer to Peer Education (PPE)
Peer to Peer Education (PPE) is a transfer of skills and information from experienced disables individual who have been trained to train who are currently not aware of available resources and help. This innovative rehabilitation approach, pioneered by disabled people, facilitates an improved quality of life through the promotion of health, mobility and independence.
Disability awarenes
Many people have no information about disability issues, that’s why people with disability are facing discrimination and isolation in the community. Due to lack of knowledge many people in our community treat disabled people with prejudice. Disabled people often face discrimination and isolation in the community. Due to the above reasons and many others, Songambele has decided to embark on journey of creating awareness in the community in order to help community members to understand, accept and involve people with disability in the community activities. People with disability have much more to offer if given a chance to do so.
We work together with our partners to organise and participate in the following events in raising awareness:
- African Child
- International Kili Marathon
- World Spinal Cord Injury Day
- World AIDS Day
- International Day of Disabled Persons
Economic empowerment Initiatives
Songambele promotes the economic empowerment of women so that they can live independently as well as support their families. This is done through the establishment of income generation activities, creating access to small grants and credit schemes as well as equipping beneficiaries with basic skills to manage their own projects
Reproductive health and HIV/AIDS
Women with disabilities are not only less likely to receive general information on sexual and reproductive health and are less likely to have access to family planning services, but should they become pregnant, they are also less likely than their non-disabled peers to have access to prenatal, labor and delivery and post-natal services.
It is right for girls and women with disability to be informed of and to have access to safe, effective, affordable and acceptable methods of fertility regulation of their choice, and the right of access to appropriate health care services that will enable women to go safely through pregnancy and childbirth and provide couples with the best chance of having a healthy infant.
Right to counsel, care, and support to disabled women and children living with HIV-AIDS.
Education
To enable children and girls living with disabilities to acquire quality and affordable education so that they may become useful citizens of this nation.
