MWAMKO comes from the once known as the MWAMKO FRIENDS OF EDUCATION, a voluntary movement initiative of individuals who were committed and dedicated to develop and improve the quality of education and democracy in the community.
It was formed as a group (CBO) in 2005 by twelve members.
MWAMKO FRIENDS OF EDUCATION worked to educate communities in different aspects and concerns, including of good governance, human rights, public health etc.
They also worked as Community Information Volunteers (CIVs), to support the community in accessing informations, and helps to comunicate the concerns and interests of the local people with the media and the government.
