HelpChildren Organization together with MOREPEO Implemented an extention Pfizer funded project titled''Promoting life course approach to healthy ageing through intergenerational activities in Morogoro''. The programme aimed at creating champions among older and younger people who work to promote healthy ageing through intergenerational health information exchange and learning. The project established intergenerationalinteractions linking with the active ageing groups currently working in Morogoro municipal and Kilosa district councils for exchange of information on common health message and institute plans to spread them to more community members. The key discussion themes envisaged to include but not limited to:
- Key health issues that children and their older caregivers should be exchanging; particularly around the life course outcomes such as the prevention of NCDs, good nutrition, reproductive health and HIV and AIDS issues, and how both age groups should benefit from those sources to educate each other
- Health prevention and education activities and initiatives that both groups should engage in and collaboratively help each other.
- The knowledge and behaviours that children and older people need, poor health habits like smoking and excessive drinking in their communities and the best way of transferring this knowledge. For example the use of cultural performance by children and storytelling by older people, children’s drawings, joint public awareness raising meetings, and healthy living testimonies. Through this programme ,HelpChildren Organization in collaboration MOREPEO agree on the criteria for the selection of children who attended the training and use the criteria to select participants as per the budget to be read as part of this TOR. However , the programme managed to :-
- identify the Child-Centred Community Development Organisation (C-CCDO) which is working closely with the District council and local structure in Morogoro that will help in the co-facilitation of the older and young people activists.
- identify the Youth Clubs/ Councils from the areas where Active Ageing Groups were formed through the NCD project.
- co-facilitate the training which will result in implementation plans to spread learning to older people, young children and adolescents living in Multi-generational households.
- make follow-up and support on this implementation plan.
