Background

The Paralegal Aid Scheme for Women and Children is a non Governmental organization,

Non political, Non religious and Non profit making Organization formed by 12 members,

Ten women and two men in 1993 after attending several introductory seminars on Legal literacy and Human rights.

      Over the years, PASWC has grown continuously and gained a lot of experience in counseling on legal issues. PASWC was registered under Trustees Incorporation Ordinance (Cap 375) on 10th, November, 2003 having registration No. 2024 and well recognized Non-governmental organization having Certificate of Compliance No. 00001461 of  July, 2011 aiming to help women and children who are facing legal problems and to enlighten them about their basic Human rights.

       The staff members of PASWC are all volunteers .They were trained by professional Lawyers and experienced paralegals. They regularly attend trainings and seminars.

PASWC is running legal aid clinic in Tanga City where they provide free legal advice to women and children.

MISSION

To create Legal and Human Rights awareness to Women and Children and Community at large.

MAIN OBJECTIVES

  1. To give legal literacy education to Women and Children
  2. To create awareness about Women and Children on their basic human rights
  3. To advice women on the right steps to take when encountered by legal problems such as inheritance matters, land ownership rights, marriage conflicts and desertion by their spouses.
  4. To network with other NGOs in lobbying on changes on Laws which discriminate women and undermine others in human rights.
  5. To educate society about Aids/HIV through theatre performance
  6. To preserve environment for sustainable development
  7. To create awareness about disabled old women, street children and orphans living in vulnerable areas about their right.
  8. To give Civic education and Good governance to women and children through seminars, workshops, and theatre performance
  9. To educate women entrepreneurs groups on human rights awareness

OUR ACTIVITIES

  1. To run Legal aid clinics everyday from Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 4.00 pm
  2. Escort clients to the courts to give moral support and incases of harassment when intervene to determine the cause.
  3. We assist women in the bureaucratic procedures of court cases; we make court follow –ups in cases of loss of case files, unnecessary delays and adjournment of cases.
  4. Advocacy is done to local and reconciliation bodies we go there to stress points for over weaker clients who cant express themselves
  5. We do mediation to settle matrimonial conflicts out of court.
  6. We provide  legal advice to children who are facing domestic violence in school and sexual abuse .
  7. We conduct seminars
